Three age-group modules, the Foundations course, and the mentorship phase — observed teaching, custom coursework, unlimited coaching, and the teen curriculum. Every weekend intensive and live workshop is included.
Four individual modules total $1,980. The full certification, paid upfront, is $1,395 and includes everything in Phase 2, costing $585 less.

Breathing Space has taught children's yoga in Washington, DC since 2008, in our studio, in DC Public Schools, in afterschool programs, and in parent-infant groups. The curriculum comes from those classes.

Foundations of Teaching Yoga for Children — 8 hours — included, completed once
Phase 1 total: 56 hours. Take modules in any order.
You may begin Phase 2 mentorship and requirements as soon as you have completed any one age-based module.

16 hours of practicum: observed teaching sessions, with structured written feedback, scheduled alongside weekend intensives or self-arranged with mentor approval
A custom path into advanced topics: 23+ hours of coursework developed with your mentor based on your goals and background. Topics include yoga philosophy, anatomy and physiology, adaptive teaching, lesson planning, and program development. Includes access to on-demand workshop recordings as they become available.
Teaching Teens, ages 12 to 17: a teen class uses more asana and sequencing than a children's class, closer to adult yoga, but adolescents aren't adults. You learn to combine postures and breathwork with games, community building, philosophy, and self-reflection.
Unlimited laser coaching for up to two years. We’ll use 15-minute individual calls with your mentor to design your path, track your hours, answer questions, and keep you moving
Monthly group mentorship sessions
Phase 2 total: 39+ hours. Full certification total: 95+ hours.
The Mentorship and Certification module is individualized by design. No two trainees follow exactly the same path, because no two trainees are starting from the same place or working toward the same goals. The certification is the same. The route is yours.
Our topic workshops are an opportunity to explore specific aspects of teaching yoga for children, some of which may be part of the custom advanced topics curriculum you develop with your mentor. Our weekend intensives cover the same material as our online modules, with an opportunity for hands-on practice. Both are included in our certification path.
Weekend intensive for each age-group module (Baby, Toddler & Preschooler, Kids & Preteen)
All live Saturday workshops
On-demand workshop recordings
The full 95-hour certification is eligible for the RCYT (Registered Children's Yoga Teacher) designation through Yoga Alliance for trainees who hold an existing RYT 200. The Breathing Space certificate itself does not require prior yoga teacher certification — the RCYT requirement is Yoga Alliance's, not ours.

Pay in full or in five installments of $289.

Jessica Lagarde (RYT, LMT) has been teaching children's yoga in the DC metro area since 2005. Nearly two decades as a licensed massage practitioner shapes how she understands bodies in motion — how touch communicates, how movement builds strength and awareness, and what it actually feels like to learn something physical rather than just watch it demonstrated.

Jennifer Mueller (MPM, E-RYT 200, RCYT, CEIM, IBCLC) has been teaching yoga to children and families since 2008. Her background spans infant massage instruction and lactation consulting alongside children's yoga — not as separate specialties but as an integrated approach to supporting families with young children. She has taught baby yoga, toddler yoga, afterschool programs, and school day-off camps since 2008.
The Breathing Space Family Yoga Teacher Training is open to yoga teachers, early childhood educators, childcare professionals, OTs, family therapists, social workers, and anyone working with toddlers and preschoolers in any setting.
Prior yoga teaching experience is helpful but not required for any part of the training. A personal yoga practice is invaluable and strongly recommended. The RCYT credential through Yoga Alliance requires an existing RYT 200; the Breathing Space certificate does not. Trainees who do not hold an adult yoga teaching certificate will be required to complete a written yoga knowledge exam in addition to other certification requirements. We will provide a reading and study list for enhancing basic yoga philosophy and asana understanding.
Yes. Individual modules are available at $495 each. If you complete all three and want to add Phase 2, the Mentorship and Certification module is available as a $495 add-on. Total cost that route: $1,980. Enrolling in the full certification here is $1,395. If you know you want the credential, the full certification is the better value.
A diligent trainee working self-paced typically completes the full certification in 6–12 months. The practicum alone requires a minimum of two months. You have two years of included coaching before any extension applies.
There is no required order. Many trainees start with the age group closest to the population they currently work with or are most eager to teach. If you're unsure, the discovery call helps you think through the right starting point. Other trainees prefer to start with babies and work up. Still others just go with the next scheduled intensive as their first module.
The program is designed for real life. You have two years of included coaching. If you need more time after that, extended coaching is available at $695 for an additional 12 months — same mentor, same access, no re-onboarding.
